ABOUT
The Amana Philosophy
The word Amana (أمانة) translates from Arabic as a "trust," "mandate," or "custodianship." However, its meaning is deeper than a simple legal trust. It refers to something precious that has been placed in your care by another, which you are morally and ethically bound to protect and return in its best state.
I’m a licensed child psychologist, assistant professor, and Behavior Analyst, but at my core, I’m someone deeply passionate about keeping kids safe and helping families navigate life’s tricky conversations. With over a decade of experience working with children, teens, and parents, I’ve seen how the right support, education, and communication can make all the difference in safeguarding our little ones.
My work has been especially focused on children with autism and other developmental differences, helping them build meaningful skills and independence. I’m also a firm believer that all children need strong buffers, the tools and knowledge to navigate this unpredictable world with confidence. That’s why I founded Amana, a space dedicated to equipping parents, educators, and professionals with practical, no-nonsense strategies to keep kids safe while empowering them to make smart choices.
I also love using stories to make big topics easier to digest. I co-authored The Day the World Went Boom, a children’s book that helps kids understand big changes, and I’m always looking for new ways to turn important lessons into engaging conversations.
When I’m not working, you’ll probably find me hanging out with my little family in different parts of the world.
Let’s work together to make safeguarding second nature, because every child deserves to grow up feeling safe, supported, and heard.
The Cultural Importance
Breaking the Silence

From Shame to Honor
Protecting a child from harm is presented as the highest form of family honor.

Community Shielding
”it takes a village” is a lived reality. Amana leverages this by reminding the community that every adult is a "guardian" of every child in that space.

Inclusive Safeguarding
By focusing on the concept of "Trust," the movement bridges the gap for children with varying abilities.

Parent’s Testimonials
"Before working with Dr. Asmahan, I was terrified of how to bring up the topic of 'body safety' with my 7-year-old. I didn't want to take away her innocence, but I wanted her to be safe. Dr. Asmahan gave me a literal script to follow. Her Amana philosophy turned my anxiety into a calm, natural conversation. I finally feel like I’ve fulfilled my duty to protect my daughter without causing her fear."
